Photo sessions are supposed to be fun and exciting right? Not always. I wasn’t going to share this story but I feel like it is needed, if not for others, just for me. On Friday, I walked back through the doors of the NICU for the first time in years. While they have moved and expanded, it still gave me chills and all the memories came flooding back. I always told my sister I wanted to be able to volunteer in the NICU after spending months in and out those doors with my own babies, I just wasn’t sure how.
I signed up as a Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep photographer months ago and had my first session Friday… in none other than the NICU. Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep photographs babies who were born sleeping or passed at the hospital. This gives the family a gift to remember their baby. It’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.
While photographing in the NICU was very somber, I walked out with a bit of peace (after a big hug from one of our all-time favorite nurses). God used my talents to give me the opportunity to volunteer where I’ve always wanted to volunteer. Do the hard things, even when you don’t think you can. God didn’t place it there for no reason.
